The Rocks Discovery Museum
Sydney, New South Wales
2005
3-D Projects were engaged by Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority as architects, exhibition designers and project managers for The Rocks Discovery Museum. Housed within significant 1840s–1850s warehouse buildings, The Rocks Discovery Museum displays and interprets The Rocks' archaeology collections and the colourful history of Sydney’s first suburb.
The works included insertion of an internal lift, mezzanine, visitor reception and store in the 1840s wing, penetrating original walls for visitor circulation, design of exhibition showcases and displays, seating, colour schemes, lighting and visitor infrastructure over three levels of the heritage buildings.
This project won the Tourism – Government/Corporate category of the 2006 Energy Australia National Trust Heritage Awards, was a finalist in the 2007 Dulux Colour Awards and won the 2010 Interpretation Australia National Awards for Excellence Silver Award..
